Mahmoud Jaran is an Associate Professor in the Department of European Languages at the School of Foreign Languages, University of Jordan, where he teaches Italian literature and civilization. He is currently the head of the department, a position he also held from 2015 to 2017, from 2022 to 2023, and again from 2024 to the present.
He earned his Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature with a minor in Italian from Al al-Bayt University in 2004. He was then awarded a scholarship from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue a Master's degree in Italian as a Second Language at the University of Udine in 2005. In 2006, he received another scholarship from the same university to undertake a PhD in Literary Sciences, which he successfully completed in 2009. That same year, he worked as a lecturer in Arabic-Italian translation at the University of Macerata.
His research interests focus primarily on comparative literature, particularly between Italian and Arabic traditions, as well as broader European and Asian literary interactions. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Dante Alighieri Society (Amman), a member of the American Association for Italian Studies (AAIS) since 2014, and a member of the Jordanian Philosophical Society since 2015.
He has participated in numerous national and international conferences and serves on the editorial board of various academic journals, including Studi Pasoliniani (Italy), AUJLL (Iraq), the Journal of Social Sciences of Muş Alparslan University (Turkey), and Majallah Thaqafiya (Jordan).
