Dr Ayman Abu-Shomar is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Jordan, with prior academic appointments at the University of Warwick, UK. His expertise spans contemporary literary and cultural studies, postcolonial theory, and dialogism. Dr Abu-Shomar has published widely in leading international journals and presented his research at major conferences across the globe, including the UK, USA, and Sweden. He has also served as a keynote speaker in Tunisia and, was shortlisted for the prestigious UK Alumni Culture, and Creativity Award from the British Council. As an experienced educator, Dr Abu-Shomar teaches various courses in cultural and literary studies, applied linguistics, and research skills. He has guided numerous undergraduate and graduate students and supervised MA and PhD theses in literary and cultural criticism.
Projects:
1) An international research project entitled Investing in Diaspora: Transforming Refugees from Burden to Asset. This project is financed with 1,000.00 USD by The American Research Association.
2) An international research project entitled Dialogic Spaces, Post-coloniality, and Intercultural Dialogue: Diasporic Negotiation with Difference. An Investigation of the Contemporary Arab and Islamic World Relations with the Western World as Represented in Cultural Artefacts: Media, Literary Texts, and Social Discourse. This project is financed with 50,000.00 SR by King Abdullah Cahir for Cultural Dialogue/ Saudi Arabia.
3) Funded research project entitled The Enduring Hegemony of the English Literary Canon: Symptoms of the Monopoly of Power Relations in Academia. This project is financed with 10,000 SR by the Research Centre, Faculty of Arts, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia.
4) Funded research project entitled Narrative Protocols, Dialogic Imagination and Identity Contestation: A Critique of a Prescribed English Literature Curriculum. This project is financed with 15,000 SR by the Research Centre, Imam Muhammad Ibn Saudi Islamic University Saudi Arabia.
