Waseem Abdul-Nabi, one of our outstanding students at the Department of Animal Production, completed a prestigious seven-month internship at Trouw Nutrition in the Netherlands—one of the world’s leading companies in animal nutrition and feed innovation. Upon his return, Waseem, in collaboration with his colleague Eng. Abdulmajeed Salameh, delivered a compelling scientific seminar titled "The Role of Nutrition During the Transition Period in Dairy Cows: Insights from Research and Practice." This seminar was held at the Faculty of Agriculture and attracted a wide audience, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, veterinarians, livestock consultants, and representatives from both the private sector and governmental institutions.
The seminar provided a deep dive into the critical challenges and nutritional strategies associated with the transition period in dairy cows—a phase that significantly affects animal health, milk production, and reproductive performance. Drawing directly from the applied research Waseem conducted at Trouw Nutrition, the presentation included data-driven insights, case studies from high-producing dairy herds in Europe, and innovative feeding solutions aimed at reducing metabolic disorders and improving postpartum recovery.
Attendees were particularly engaged by the discussion on how cutting-edge nutritional technologies and precision feeding can be adapted to local farming systems in Jordan and the broader Middle East. The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, sparking thoughtful dialogue and potential future collaborations between the university and industry stakeholders. This event not only highlighted the global exposure and research capabilities of our students but also reinforced the importance of integrating academic training with real-world application to address pressing issues in animal production.
