The book consists of selected poetic excerpts works spanning various historical periods. It includes the poetry of prominent pre-Islamic Arab poets such as Imru’ al-Qais, Zuhair ibn Abi Salma, and Tarafa ibn al-Abd, as well as those who succeeded them in later eras. Additionally, it explores the works of renowned poets such as Abu Tammam, Abu Nuwas, al-Mutanabbi, and Abu al-Ala al-Ma’arri, who actively opposed their predecessors and challenged established poetic conventions. The collection further extends to modern-era poets whose writings critically engage with and challenge the historical legacy and traditions of Arabic poetry.

Contemporary poets whom we meet in The Jordanian Critics Association and the Jordanian Writers society will be analyzed and compared to traditional poets. In addition, we will interview them in order to identify their awareness of the impact of ancient poets on them, and weather or not they feel any kind of struggle regarding their heritage.

Engaging with contemporary poetic movements requires thoughtful attention through the lens of modern critical theory. In this spirit, our research group regards the Jordanian Writers Society as a vital bridge for dialogue with poets and literary figures. Moreover, to further anchor our research trajectory, we have drawn on the resources of the Jordanian Critics Association—striving to merge theoretical frameworks with practical application.

Equally important is our engagement with contemporary Arabic poetry. To do so, we will rely on reputable digital platforms as sources for examining theoretical insights through concrete, published examples—especially those featured on the most prominent of these websites.
