As part of the research interests of the group, a scholarly symposium was convened in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Jordan, dedicated to the poetry of the Jordanian poet Maha Al-Attoum. Dr. Yousef Hamdan contributed a research paper in which he examined the poetic substance of Al-Attoum’s experience from two dimensions: first, the semantic implications of poetic language; and second, the interrelation between her poetic experience and preceding poetic traditions, as well as her connection with predecessors at the levels of vision and poetic structure. He further underscored the poet’s aspiration for distinctiveness amid her awareness of the weight of poetic conventions.
