azan Hassona is a professor of oral medicine and special care dentistry at the University of Jordan and a senior consultant at Jordan University Hospital. He graduated from the School of Dentistry at the University of Jordan in 2006 and continued his postgraduate training in oral surgery, oral medicine and special care dentistry in Jordan and UK. Dr Hassona has established the special care dentistry service in Jordan and is the founder of the first postgraduate training program in oral medicine and special care dentistry in the Arab region. He is a co-founder and the chair of the scientific committee of the Arab Society of Disability and Oral Health and a founding member of the Jordanian Society of Oral Medicine and Pathology. 

His clinical expertise includes non-surgical management of oral and maxillofacial diseases, and oral healthcare management of patients with complex healthcare needs including individuals with medical conditions, geriatric patients, genetic diseases, and individuals with intellectual, physical, and social disabilities. Dr Hassona is an expert in oral health promotion for individuals with disabilities and development of patient-specific education programs. He organized more than 100 continuous professional development courses, lectures, symposia, and workshops on various topics related to oral medicine and special care dentistry. Dr Hassona's research interests include oral health of vulnerable individuals, diagnostic delay in oral diseases, and health informatics. He has published more than 120 indexed research papers and 3 book chapters and has been recognized among the world's top 2% researchers by Stanford's University.  He serves as an editorial board member and active reviewer for various scientific journals including Oral Diseases, Special Care in Dentistry, Oral Surgery Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology, and British Dental Journal. 

He has served various academic and administrative duties including Head of oral medicine examination board at Jordan Medical Council, founding dean of Faculty of Dentistry at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Vice dean for academic and administrative affairs at School of Dentistry/The University of Jordan, assistant dean for quality assurance and accreditation, and assistant dean for student's affair at the University of Jordan. He holds several prestigious Awards including iADH research award, Hamdi Mango Research Award, and The University of Jordan Most Published Researcher Award. ​
