Dr. Azzam and Students Join International Astronomy Forum in Tunisia

Dr. Ala’a Azzam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Jordan, participated alongside three undergraduate students in the First International Forum for Student Amateur Astronomers, held in Kelibia, Tunisia, from March 30 to April 3, 2016.

The forum, organized under the theme "Astronomy and Exploring the Secrets of the Universe", brought together students and astronomy enthusiasts from across the Arab world, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and hands-on learning in the field of astronomy.

Dr. Azzam and her students conducted a specialized workshop on building Newtonian telescopes, during which they demonstrated the process of grinding and polishing telescope mirrors and assembling the instruments. The workshop was well received by forum participants and built upon a similar training previously held at the University of Jordan, which had engaged more than 20 students.

The group also contributed to the event by presenting scientific posters, covering various astronomical topics and taking part in discussions and scientific exchanges throughout the forum.

This participation reflects Dr. Azzam’s ongoing efforts to provide enriching experiential learning opportunities for her students and to strengthen the University of Jordan’s presence in regional and international scientific events.
