Dr. Ala’a Azzam Participates in First Arab Winter School for Astrophysics with Physics Student

As part of her ongoing commitment to advancing astronomy education and regional collaboration, Dr. Ala’a Azzam from the Department of Physics at the University of Jordan participated in the First Arab Winter School for Astrophysics (FAWSA), held from November 28 to December 3, 2016, in Marrakech, Morocco. She was accompanied by one of her undergraduate students, representing the University of Jordan in this pioneering regional event.

Organized by the Arab Astronomical Society (ArAS) and hosted by Cadi Ayyad University, FAWSA brought together students and educators from across the Arab world to receive advanced training in astrophysics. The school featured lectures and workshops led by international experts, covering key topics such as light pollution, dark skies, observational techniques, and the rich astronomical heritage of the Arab region.

As part of the school’s hands-on learning experience, Dr. Azzam and her student visited the Oukaimeden Observatory, located in the Atlas Mountains near Marrakech. The observatory visit allowed participants to engage with professional astronomical instruments and further connect theory to practice in a real observational setting.

Dr. Azzam’s participation in FAWSA underscores her dedication to expanding opportunities for Jordanian students in the field of astrophysics and fostering stronger ties within the Arab scientific community. The experience also served as a platform to inspire the next generation of astronomers in Jordan and beyond.
