UJ Honors Researchers Included in Top 2% List of World Scientists

Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Wajih Owais, the University of Jordan (UJ) on Saturday, December 16th, honored 35 faculty members who ranked among the world's top 2% researchers, according to Stanford University Ranking of the World Scientists.

The honoring ceremony featured UJ researchers from different disciplines, whose research was highly cited during the last 5 years in Scopus database, and researchers who were listed in Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list.

In his address, UJ President, Professor Nathir Obeidat, lauded the researchers' efforts and achievement, referring to "first-class Jordanian scientists, who make an impact and contribute to the world's progress"

Obeidat stated a "key" challenge facing scientific research in Jordan's universities is to align this attempt effort with creating an economic and political environment that supports excellence, which might expand funding in technology and innovation.

He also said that Jordan "firmly" believes in education - associated prosperity, based on research and innovation, and nevertheless desires new projects to construct international connections that could qualify Jordan to engage in more influential global research experiences in production areas.

Dean of Scientific Research, Professor Faleh AL-Sawair, said that UJ today honors researchers who have contributed to raising its name in global rankings.

He added "It is a pride for all of us that 22 Jordanian researchers were in Stanford's list of top 2% of scientists worldwide in multiple scientific fields, and two in Clarivate list of the world's most influential researchers."

In a speech on behalf of the honored scientists, Prof. Shaher Al-Momani pointed out that the spread of the culture of scientific research and interest in innovation and creativity and the conduct of high quality research, undoubtedly contributes to solving problems of national priority and achieving comprehensive national development.
 
Al-Momani presented pressing issues of concern to Jordanian researchers, pointing out to the need to promote scientific research in the Jordanian universities, and update legislation governing research, to combat scientific publication in scientific journals and conferences that do not adhere to international arbitration and publishing standards.

The ceremony was attended by UJ’s Chairman of Board of Trustees Prof. Adnan Badran, members of the Board of Trustees, former UJ presidents, vice-presidents, professors of honor and a number of school deans.
